The Indian Railways has officially announced a new recruitment drive for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) through Centralized Employment Notification (CEN) No. 01/2025.

As an ALP, your job will include assisting the senior Loco Pilot in running trains safely and efficiently. You’ll also be responsible for inspecting locomotive systems and ensuring timely departures and arrivals.

Qualification

To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet one of the following educational criteria:

• 10th pass + ITI Certificate in trades like:
  • Electrician
  • Wireman
  • Fitter
  • Instrument Mechanic
  • Mechanic (Diesel, Motor Vehicle, Radio & TV)
  • Turner
  • Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, etc.

OR

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile) from a recognized institution.

Age Criteria

As of 01 July 2025, the age limits are:

• Minimum Age: 18 years
• Maximum Age: 30 years

Age Relaxation:

Selection Process

The selection involves multiple stages:

1. CBT-1 (First Computer Based Test) – For shortlisting
2. CBT-2 (Second Computer Based Test) – Two parts (Technical + General)
3. CBAT (Computer-Based Aptitude Test) – Mandatory for ALP role
4. Document Verification
5. Medical Fitness Test

The final merit will be based on:

• 70% marks from CBT-2 Part A
• 30% score from CBAT

Salary

The Assistant Loco Pilot post comes under Level 2 of the 7th Pay Commission with an initial basic pay of ₹19,900/month.
